Whitehouse Shrimp Farm Update

September 18th at 10 a.m. The 3rd Annual Whitehouse Shrimp Harvest. Shrimp will be netted and sold whole on ice. Local farmers will sell their produce.

Thank you to all who participated in the 2nd Annual Whitehouse Shrimp Harvest!! We harvested nearly a ton of fresh water shrimp over the weekend. It required the hard work of thirty workers to collect close to two thousands pounds of shrimp over two days.

We started 2009 with the purchase of 20,000 juvenile shrimp. They were older juveniles and more mature than 2008. The initial water temperature of the pond hit 70 degrees Fahrenheit earlier this year (June 8th) which enabled us to have a longer growing season. Our harvest date was six days later than 2008, and the warm September 2009 spurred increased growth. Also, the maturity of the pond provided a greater amount of natural foods which also impacted the increased size of the shrimp in 2009.
